Why Garage Door Cables Fail
Lift cables work alongside your torsion or extension springs, winding around a drum each time the door opens. Over thousands of cycles, the cable frays where it bends around the drum, and Phoenix's heat can accelerate the wear on the cable's coating. A cable can also snap suddenly if a spring breaks first and dumps its full load onto the cable, or if a bent track misaligns the cable's path.
Warning Signs Before a Cable Snaps
A cable rarely fails without notice. Visible fraying near the drum, a cable that looks loose or slack on one side, or a door that closes slightly crooked are all signs worth having inspected before the cable lets go completely.
Our Cable Repair Process
We first release spring tension safely, then inspect both cables, the drums, and the track for related wear before replacing the cable. We typically replace both cables as a pair, re-balance the door, and test full travel before finishing — the same standard we apply to every garage door repair.
